December 5th is World Soil Day, an international day to raise awareness about the importance of healthy soil for climate change mitigation, food security, biodiversity, purifying water and nutrient cycles.
The date was chosen to honor the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand's birthday, who was a passionate soil scientist and a proponent of sustainable agriculture and conservation.
I'm participating in an online course called Seed to Supper by Arizona Department of Health Services and University of Arizona Cooperative Extension and learning so much about healthy soil! Soil health is vital to sustainable gardening, planting and farming. It is houses the roots, nutrients and support system for all ecology making it a primary key factor for all plant enthusiasts.
In the next blog post I will discuss the notes I've gathered from attending this Seed to Supper course and the Seed & Soil: Foundations for our Future, Southwest Food Sovereignty Gathering event in regards to soil health and maintenance!
We can all be proponents of sustainable agriculture and conservation and here's how to participate!
How to Participate:
Learn and share about soil health and sustainable soil management and it's importance to protect vital resources
Encourage global action
Compost to return nutrients to soil and reduce waste
Plant a garden
Support sustainable practices
Participate online by sharing your own efforts on social media using #WorldSoilDay on Dec. 5th
Wishing you infinite peace, all the best energy and to the stars,
